Providers
Providers / Healthcare organizations benefit from using the MedApps Solution with their home healthcare patients. The MedApps Solution is designed to bring benefit to Providers:
- Providing ability to cost effectively cover large patient populations with remote medical monitoring
- Decreasing need for travel and wear on critical healthcare resources
- Providing ability to serve a greater number of people (more efficient), in a short period of time
- Increasing opportunity for collaboration with other healthcare resources
- Allowing better follow up and ability to monitor and ‘stay ahead’ of a patient’s disease
- Delivering a strong return on investment (ROI)
- Improving a patient's quality of life and their overall rate of compliance in a significant way
Recording and Transmitting Patient Monitor Readings
Enabling remote patients to provide their health data requires the patient to purchase, or be provided with, the appropriate health monitoring equipment (e.g. a glucometer combined with MedApps’ HealthPAL).
When the patient uses a health monitor to collect a reading, the HealthPAL automatically receives the information and transmits it, using cellular-based technology, to a secure server for monitoring and review by nurse call center, clinicians, etc.
HealthPAL offers a significant breakthrough for DMOs and other organizations who recognize the value of remote patient monitoring.
Mobility: The basic underpinning of MedApps' technology is to enable wireless transmission of data from virtually anywhere a patient may be: at home, work, school, vacation or on the go. This enables patients to maintain their normal routine and encourages an active lifestyle by eliminating the need to be tethered to a point-of-care. Previous remote monitoring systems typically required connectivity to ‘land’ telephone lines. Removing point-of-care restrictions, helps patients to better comply with their prescribed treatments.
Simplicity: MedApps assures nothing gets in between the data and call center nurses. Once a reading is taken, HealthPAL records and transmits it without the patient pushing buttons, connecting any cables, or navigating menus and on-screen commands. As a result, there is very little or no assistance required to set up the system with patients, and technical support issues are easily handled with minimal assistance.
Affordability: From a pricing stand-point, HealthPAL is very competitive and often costs less than most portable consumer electronic devices. Combined with MedApps’ savings from reduced expenses in deployment, maintenance and lower care related costs, the MedApps ROI is significant. Furthermore, the MedApps System enables use “off-the-shelf”, retail health monitoring equipment and supplies that are competitively priced and readily available on-line, and most pharmacy, grocery and other retail outlets. It is possible that for some patients, no change from their current monitor would be required.
Practicality: Unlike cell phone based remote monitoring solutions, HealthPAL’s singular, dedicated mission, makes it much less susceptible to abuse, misuse, theft, and accidental discontinuance of carrier service. Additionally, by not linking health monitoring to cell phones, users are not exposed to the impact from carriers changing models, platforms, service options or "air-time" packages.
Receiving, Storing and Analyzing Patient-Sent Data
This part of the process is completely transparent to both the organization and patient. HealthPAL automatically sends collected patient readings to a secure central server where the data is stored, after which data analysis can be performed.
Once stored to the server, data can be accessed securely by nurses / clinicians via web browsers, utilizing the MedApps HealthCOM software application. The web-based application offers a host of data management features for care professionals. HealthCOM also supplies data to enterprise level EHRs and has the capability to integrate with EMRs.
Using a centralized, web-accessed, secure server provides your organization with numerous benefits, including:
- Complete system implementation without any impact on existing IT infrastructure or additional costs for new hardware or system upgrades
- No internal technical support, maintenance or software management overhead is required
- Easy access by nurses, regardless of location: in the field, at the call center or working from home
- Consistent use of the same, most up-to-date, version of software
Viewing, Monitoring and Acting Upon Patient-Sent Data
Accessing MedApps’ HealthCOM server allows nurses to utilize their web browsers to actively monitor all of their patients, as well as run important and often revealing analytics on an individual’s information. The data can also be used to populate a back office system.
Individualized thresholds and timetables can be established for patients that will automatically trigger alerts when patient readings fall outside their parameters – or if data is not received at all. When this occurs, not only is the nurse alerted, automated interactive voice response (IVR) calls to the patient can also be triggered to serve as a reminder, alert or facilitate connecting the patient with a nurse right away if necessary.
All readings and events can be reviewed, notated and used to create a variety of reports and graphic trending snapshots – all of which can be exported in various file formats.
Patients are easily added to the system and can be assigned, reassigned and managed just as easily. Nurses can maintain significant levels of patient information within the system. This allows access to everything needed at a glance, in order to provide quality care and excellent customer service.
In addition to the powerful features offered to nurses, the system is designed with sophisticated administrative, supervisor and management functions and tools to ensure a very flexible and customizable, yet totally secure, working environment.
MedApps provides user training, helpful guidebooks and various levels of assistance through its dedicated DMO support line.
