Kris Vijay, MD, is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular medicine.Along with his directorship responsibilities at the SCRI, Dr. Vijay is also a practicing Noninvasive Cardiologist at Scottsdale Cardiovascular Center, Scottsdale, Arizona.
Dr. Vijay received his medical degree from the University of Mysore, Kasturba Medical College, in Mysore, India, in 1979, and postgraduate training in medicine and nephrology at KEM Hospital in Bombay, India.He then completed a residency in general internal medicine at Kettering General Hospital, Oxford Regional Authority, in England, and fellowship in endocrinology and diabetes at North Manchester General Hospital and St. Mary Hospital, Isle of Wight, University of Southampton, in England.
Dr. Vijay's additional postgraduate training includes a residency in internal medicine at St. Mary's Hospital, University of Rochester, and a fellowship in cardiology at Good Samaritan Medical Center, University of Arizona.
Dr. Vijay is the immediate past President of the American Diabetes Association (Arizona Affiliate) and was chosen as Medical Chair for Diabetes Expo in March 2002; he is former Chairman of the National Conference on Diabetes State Management, sponsored by the American Diabetes Association.
Dr. Vijay has participated in more than 120 research trials focused on congestive heart failure, hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, coronary artery disease, plaque regression, peripheral vascular disease and diabetes/metabolic syndrome.
